Contrast: The red lamp grabs the viewer's attention due to the contrast in color and leads the eye to the title.
The other contrast is the 'A' , the drop cap.
Alignment: The body copy has been contained and aligned within the rectangle section in the middle of the page. This brings the focus to the text, while leaving negative space.
Texture: The door texture contrasts with the page on the right side of the spread which is clean and has a soft look due tot he ample negative space.
Shape: The left and right side are unified through the rectangle shapes.
Hierarchy: The title and the drop cap help with focus and structure.
Movement: The eye moves from the lamp to the title. The cross bars point to the right side of the page and the drop cap leads to the text.

Very earthy, muted colors with subtle contrast have been used to show the views and opinions of the design community.
